• To enable democratic local decision-making and action by, and on behalf of, communities
• To meet the current and future needs of communities for good-quality local infrastructure (water, sewage, roads, energy, networks), local public services and performance of regulatory functions in a way that is most cost-effective for households and businesses.
• Environmental safety and health, district emergency management and civil defence preparedness, building control, public health inspections and other environmental health matters.
• Ensure that resources are used efficiently and effectively to best meet the needs of the local community.
• Ensure transparency and accountability in decision-making
• Develop, implement and monitor its strategic plans and budgets
• Plan for and provide services and facilities for the local community Including maintenance of libraries and cemeteries.
• Report annually on performance in relation to their plans.
• Support the Local Government in Building of Partnerships with the Non-Public Actors (Private sector and CSOs)
• Supervision of rural development and administrative activities
• Ensure women’s development policies, rules, regulations and their application at LG’s
• Developing Capacity development strategy and training plans as well organizing training sessions and exposure/exchange programs
• Ensure Inter ministerial sector coordination meetings (Governance and Security, Planning, Emergency, Finance, Land and Public Works Water, Hygiene and Sanitation etc.) are regularly attended by MOI Senior staff (directors and Section heads) and provide feedback
• Ensure that Internal Audits are conducted on a regular basis by crosschecking all financial and services delivery reports from Regions and districts
