Establishment of Hirshabelle and Ministry of Interior of Hirshabelle State

Hirshabelle is the last federal member state established in Somalia after a consensus agreement was reached by respective clan leaders. Hirshabelle consists of two regions, namely Hiraan and Middle Shabelle. The State was established under article 49 of the Federal Government of Somalia’s provisional constitution, which stipulates that based on a voluntary decision, two or more regions may merge to form a Federal Member State (FMS).
The clan elders thereafter selected 99 members of parliament. On October 17, 2016, Ali Abdullahi Osoble was elected and inaugurated as the first President of the Hirshabelle State. Since then, two other presidents have been elected to office. In September 2017, the Hirshabelle parliament elected Mohamed Abdi Ware as the second President of the State and after his term ended, he was replaced by Ali Abdullahi Hussein; the former vice president, who was elected on November 11, 2020 as the third president of Hirshabelle State.
Hirshabelle State is located in the South-Central part of Somalia, and consists of two regions; Hiran and Middle Shabelle. It is bordered by Galmudug State to the north, South West State of Somalia to the west and Banadir region to the south, Ethiopia to the north and west and the Indian Ocean to the east. Hirshabelle has a hot tropical climate, with little seasonal variations. Shabelle River passes through 6 districts namely Beledweyne, Buloburte, Jalalaqsi, Mahaday, Jowhar and Balad,
The Ministry of Interior of Hirshabelle was officially established on February 20th,2017 together with the rest of the cabinet members and it was approved by the state Parliament on March, 2017 and has experienced two ministers including current minister, Hon Abdirahman Dahir Gure (Karoore)
